Grandparents Raising Grandkids Resource Center

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our new
Grandparents Raising Grandkids Resource Center
right here in Central Massachusetts!

What is the Grandparents Raising Grandkids Resource Center?

Did you know that at least 1 in 10 children across the U.S. are being raised by at least one grandparent? (Source: 2019 American Community Survey)

This innovative program meets grandparents raising grandchildren and other kin right where they’re at, whether that be a local senior center, community organization, or public school. The Center began with a series of seed grants from organizations such as the Reliant Foundation and the support of other local partners like UMass Memorial. With the help to a federal earmark of $1.2 million from Congressman Jim McGovern, we are advancing this program to provide more opportunities for support!

How does it work?

Through our team of Grandfamilies Community Health Workers (GFCHWs), we will increase access to resources for grandparents raising grandkids across Central Massachusetts in communities such as Worcester, Leominster, and Southbridge. GFCHWs will connect households led by grandparents to services such as:

  • language translations
  • housing
  • transportation
  • financial literacy
  • mental and behavioral health
  • culturally competent and medically tailored food
  • educational opportunities

We envision these wraparound family services as a way to make a tangible impact for grandparents raising grandkids while also strengthening community partnerships to improve service delivery.
