History

The Massachusetts Family Caregiver Support Program was established under Title III-E of the Older Americans Act to assist caregivers with information and access to services and supports. The program is administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, in coordination with the Area Agencies on Aging/Aging Services Access Points throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Central Massachusetts Family Caregiver Support Program is a collaboration of four agencies committed to assisting elders and their caregivers in our service area of 61 cities and towns in Central Mass that serve over 128,000 elders, and an estimated 65,000 caregivers.

Collaboration

This cooperative effort of Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging, Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc, Montachusett Home Care Corporation and Tri-Valley, Inc. brings care for seniors and caregivers to a new level in the region.

Goals

The Family Caregiver Support Program empowers elders and caregivers by providing information, education, support, and services that enhance quality of life. Collectively this program was initiated in an effort to help individuals manage the enormous personal, social, and economic challenges of caring for an elderly parent, relative, or friend. Our objective is to support long-term care systems designed to prevent premature institutionalization and to promote elders' independence in the community. After all, family caregiving and informal supports are essential components of improving the quality of life of elders in Central Massachusetts.
