Assess Your Stress

These questions will help you measure your stress level when helping the older adult.

 
Do you feel that the older adult asks for more help than he/she needs?
Do you feel that because of the time you spend with the older adult that you do not have enough time for yourself?
Do you feel stressed between caring for the older adult and trying to meet other responsibilities for your family or work?
Do you feel embarrassed about the older adult's behavior?
Do you feel angry when you are around the older adult?
Do you feel that the older adult currently affects your relationships with other family members or friends in a negative way?
Are you of afraid what the future holds for the older adult?
Do you feel the older adult is dependent on you?
Do you feel strained when you are around the older adult?
Do you feel your health has suffered because of your involvement with the older adult?
Do you feel that you do not have as much privacy as you would like because of the older adult?
Do you feel that your social life has suffered because you are caring for the older adult?
Do you feel uncomfortable about having friends over because of the older adult?
Do you feel that the older adult seems to expect you to take care of him/her as if you were the only one he/she could depend on?
Do you feel that you don't have enough money to take care of the older adult in addition to the rest of your expenses?
Do you feel that you will be unable to take care of the older adult much longer?
Do you feel you have lost control of your life since the older adult's illness?
Do you wish that you could leave the care of the older adult to someone else?
Do you feel uncertain about what to do about the older adult?
Do you feel you should be doing more for the older adult?
Do you feel you could do a better job in caring for the older adult?
Overall, how burdened do you feel in caring for the older adult?
